Most nights, before she falls asleep, Felicity will write me a sweet note on either her Magna Doodle or dry erase board. The past couple nights she hasn’t written me a note. I haven’t said anything, because I don’t want to ever guilt her into doing something just so that I can feel good about myself.
This afternoon was tough. I don’t even feel like sharing “why”. I had a meeting after school and we got home late. Felicity could tell something was up, because she didn’t ask me to play like she usually does. She knew I just needed some time to be alone for a few minutes. When it was time for bed, she got ready right away, gave me a kiss on my cheek and went off to bed. I heard her reading and then the sound of her bed creaking as she rolled over and went to sleep.
When I went in to check on her and turn off the light, I saw that the love notes had returned. I read her sweet, encouraging words and they were just what I needed tonight. She has no idea of what’s on my heart and mind. I take that back…she might not know the specifics of what’s going on, but she could tell something was not right with her daddy. Felicity knew I would come in and turn off her light and that I would read her note.
Yeah, Jaime and I got her name just right…”Intense Happiness”. Thank you God for Felicity’s choice to share encouragement and truth with her daddy. She is loved fiercely by this tall, imperfect man.
